After the last of the devil’s turned to run away, the city burst into celebration. But soon things became business again as the several races that were promised gold, came to lord Silverbird for their payment. The party soon found out that the percentages they promised to them were double of what they actually had. So they quickly ran to the infernal courts to collect the gold there, and came back with 300,000 gold pieces worth of stuff to distribute. The party soon decided that deceit was the best course of action and told each of the races that they got some extra gold as a part of the deal. The dwarves got some fine jewels, the lich got some fine objects of artistic value, the Kraggumen got land to use underneath Silverbird for mining. Next came the vampires.
The vampire walked in and immediately demanded for the gold. They showed him the gold, and a portable hole for him to use. He looked at it, and said that his scouts reports promised more gold. The party panicked and started saying how this was all the gold they could afford to give, and other things. The vampire threatened to attack the city, when Ander said they would be happy to provide Cynfael with some adventurers. The vampire questioned further and found out that this group of adventurers would be able to do any quest for Cynfael whenever he needed them. The vampire accepted and left with the gold.
At this point the party then showed lord Silverbird the amount of gold that they retrieved for the city repairs. Lord Silverbird profusely thanked them for their efforts and for what they did, and was on the verge of tears. The party was even able to pocket some gold themselves.
They went into the city to relax, and soon found the milk bar. They spent some time there until the lich came back with his beholder (now named pupils). The lich saw something was bothering Vernaux and asked him what was wrong. Vernaux explained that he was concerned about the plague of aradoom. The lich made a funny face saying he knew that word and left to go research it.
A few days later he came back to the city, and went looking for Vernaux. After finding him he told him what he knew of the plague of aradoom. He talked about a guy known as Zazerin, who was a big hot shot cleric over 400 years ago, who, in his efforts to cure a disease, made another disease on accident. This new disease spread through open wounds and shortened a persons lifespan by a significant amount and made them weak for the rest of their life. Some hobgoblins caught wind of this and used it in war, as it would weaken the enemy soldiers immediately after a single cut. It died off with the hobgoblins, in the aradoom wars (named after the army that used it). He then told Vernaux about how he used to know where Zazerin used to live, and pointed it out on the map. He then left, teleporting out the market square, leaving burned runes on the ground. He forgot pupils though, and had to pop back in to get him. During this time Gamli forged a blade to commerate the battle over the devils, and Alton received a quest to get the blade of Dundarke.
They set out, parting ways with Alton. They traveled through the mountains and almost got lost, if it weren’t for Gamli. During this travel they got ambushed by a Remohraz, that swallowed Vernaux in one quick attack.
The party fought against the creature slowly whittling it down, with Ander being swallowed as well. Ander then decided to fireball the inside of the Remohraz and was successful in getting it to regurgitate the two. It then heard its children being carried off by frost giants and ran to save them, but it was too slow. Ander wanted to help her, but Vernaux and Gamli both said that she deserves to lose her children. Vernaux was very, very bitter about being swallowed and knocked unconscious inside its stomach.
On they went, and soon they came to the part of the map that was specified. Doing a little searching they found the entrance to the dungeon. The entrance appeared to be shaped like a dwarves face with the mouth being the entrance. However the mouth had a slab of stone blocking the entrance. Ander cast enhance ability on Vernaux and he lifted the slab up with his bare hands. They lodged a rock in the entrance, and went in.
They find themselves inside a room that had to have hollowed out at least a quarter of the mountain. They saw a tunnel leading deeper into the dungeon, and in they went.
Traveling down the hallway they soon heard foot steps coming down the hall. Vernaux hid while Ander and Gamli stood in the center. The creature turned the corner and was shocked to see two creatures. He then whispered to them that they need to leave or else Jakys (jaw-keys) would kill them. He got the two to travel back towards the entrance while Vernaux went further in the dungeon.
Gamli then questioned the red slaadi, and learned that Jakys was a slaad who turned evil and began bullying the others to obey him. He kills whatever he can, and is evil. He soon has to leave, when Gamli casts suggestion on him and tells him to tell Jakys nothing was here. He leaves to go tell him.
Meanwhile Vernaux comes across a room that has a huge masonry bridge across a chasm, with 2 red, and 1 blue slaadi on it. Behind them are two doors, 1 elegantly carved masonry and the other a crude tunnel. He throws a rock at the masonry door to distract them and climbs under the the bridge while they aren’t looking. They inspect the door saying how odd it was that the door made a sound. They then went back to the bridge and stood there, while Vernaux waited beneath the bridge.
The slaad that was charmed walks into the room and walks straight through the other 3 without stopping. The 3 say how odd Drew is and their sound is cut off mid sentence. Hidden out of sight Gamli has cast silence and is working on magic circle. By the time they notice what is going on they are trapped in the circle.
Vernaux then follows Drew who went down the crude tunnel. He overhears Jakys throwing Drew around and hurting him. Vernaux walks in with his dancing sword floating next to him. Jakys, who is a death slaadi says “so there was an intruder… LIAR!” He then kicks Drew, and turns to Vernaux. Still talking to Drew he says “I’ll kill you after I’m done with this”. Vernaux then decides that he wants to taunt Jakys. He remembers a story from his youth and says “run, run, as fast as you can, you can’t catch me, I’m the gingerbread man”! He then sprints up the tunnel.
Jakys changes forms into a six legged, scaly creature, with 2 small eyes. It has no mouth or nose and resembles something completely foreign. He then races after Vernaux, slowly gaining on him.
Vernaux looks back to see this creature chasing him, and sends his dancing sword back to attack Jakys. It hits right as he was about to get him, slowing Jakys down enough for him to jump out of the tunnel and catch the bridge, sliding underneath it.
Jakys runs out and bellows where the gingerbread man is. He sees his slaadi, and some more people behind them. He then bellows at them and runs to attack. He slams into the magic circle and is then surrounded by a wall of fire behind him. He shape shifts into a bat and flies towards them, turning invisible in the process.
They look around for him, and Gamli casts a spell that will target him if he gets near them. (guardian of faith). Immediately after casting it, it zaps him making his invisibility disappear.
He moves to attack them and Ander retreats while Gamli stands there and utters the words for banishment. He pauses, roars, and pops out of the material plane, into limbo.
The other slaadi cheer, that he’s gone. They no longer have to deal with Jakys. They then go to the sealed door, dispel magic, and Vernaux shoves the slab out of the way. They walk down the stairs into a very nice bedroom. Inside they find writing written on the walls by a hand driven insane. The walls detail the life of Zazerin and how he became friends with the slaadi. It talks about how he tried to cure a disease only to be met with aradoom. He goes on a war campaign to solve that problem, and comes back to find that one of his slaad, touched stuff he shouldn’t of. Soon he turned evil and Zazerin locked himself in his room, unable to kill his old friend Jakys.
They found three magic items in the room. A small green gemstone of luck taken by Vernaux. A wand of lightning taken by Ander. And a tome of understanding taken by Gamli. The tome was ancient and was used by many before him.
They turned to leave, and realized that the room they were standing in was no longer the same. The floor turned into a floating stone. The walls faded away to reveal other stones, fireballs, water globes, and tornadoes around them. As they reached to grab the door, it turned into a million butterflies. They had stepped into a portal to Limbo.
